Lady Knights Track & Field Finish Strong at Cody Beaumont Invite:
Shasta College's women's track and field team delivered a balanced, high-scoring performance at the Cody B Invite on Saturday, March 7, 2026, finishing second in the team standings with 85 points against a field led by Chico State.
Sprint group sets the tone
In the 100 meters, Freshman Autumn Craft battled a deep Chico State sprint squad, placing ninth in 13.22 as the fastest Knight in the event and gaining valuable early-season reps against four-year competition. Shasta made its biggest sprint statement in the 200, where freshman Nicole Weaver stormed to second place in 26.24, finishing as the top junior college sprinter in the race. Fellow freshman Talyn Hanly added to the scoring punch with a fifth-place finish in 26.99, putting two Knights in the top five of the half-lap. The 200-meter results helped give Shasta important team points and showcased a young sprint core with the potential to contend all spring.
Distance success in the 1500
The Knights owned the women's 1500, where freshman Kaia Henry took control of the race and never let go, cruising to the event win in 5:33.99 for 10 points. Behind her, freshman teammate Shaelyn Riddle closed well to finish third in 6:08.84, giving Shasta two of the top three finishers and a dominant point haul from a single distance event. The 1–3 punch in the 1500 underscored the emergence of Shasta's young middle-distance group as a reliable scoring unit.
Jumps crew makes a big impact
Sophomore jumper Lily Sherman put together one of the standout all-around performances of the day for Shasta. In the high jump, she cleared 1.45 meters (4-9) to finish second, narrowly behind Simpson's Imani Watkins and ahead of Chico State's Carly Harriman in a tightly contested competition. Sherman then came back to win the triple jump with a mark of 9.93 meters (32-7), securing 10 more points and delivering one of Shasta's two individual event titles on the women's side. Her jumps double provided a major boost to the Knights' final team total and highlighted the strength of Shasta's vertical and horizontal jumps group.
Throwers stack points in multiple events
Sophomore thrower Daphne Ruess led the way in the ring, placing fifth in the discus with a throw of 31.74 meters (104-2) to secure five points in a field dominated by Chico State's Saryah Harris‑Davis. Ruess added an even bigger contribution in the hammer, where she placed fourth at 36.87 meters (120-11), scoring six more points and affirming her role as a key dual‑event contributor. Sophomore Iris Alvarez‑Zamora gave Shasta crucial depth in the throws, tying for ninth in the shot put with 8.83 meters (28-11.75) to snag a share of a point, then finishing fifth in the hammer at 34.10 meters (111-10) and third in the javelin with a throw of 27.44 meters (90-0). Her ability to score in three separate throwing events was one of the most complete efforts of the meet for the Knights.
Overall team finish and outlook
When the final scores were tallied, Shasta's women stood second out of six teams with 85 points, trailing only Chico State (243.33) and finishing ahead of Simpson (Cal.), Redwoods, Yuba, and Butte. The Knights' success came from a truly balanced attack, with points coming in the sprints, distance events, jumps, and all three heavy throws plus javelin. With multiple freshmen already contributing event wins and podium finishes, Shasta College's women's track and field team leaves the Cody B Invite with confidence and momentum heading into the heart of the 2026 season.
