Knights Baseball Hit the Cosairs Hard in a Three Game Sweep:
March 6-7, 2026
Shasta College rode dominant pitching and a relentless offense to sweep a three-game road series from College of the Redwoods in Eureka, outscoring the Corsairs 39–10 to stay firmly in second place in Golden Valley Conference play at 6–1.
Series overview
Across three games on March 6–7, the Knights won 23–5, 10–4 and 6–1, piling up 37 hits while holding Redwoods to just 21. Shasta set the tone with a 23-run explosion in Friday's opener, then backed solid starting pitching with timely hitting in Saturday's doubleheader sweep.
Game 1: Knights erupt for 23
In Friday's opener, Shasta broke out for a 23–5 win behind a 6-run fourth and 6-run ninth, finishing with 23 runs on 18 hits and taking advantage of six Redwoods errors. Patrick Bowen Jr. powered the middle of the order with a three-run homer and four RBI, while William Mager and Tyler Zahniser each roped run-scoring doubles as 10 different Knights drove in at least one run.
Starter Ezra Marcano gave Shasta six strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts before the bullpen finished the nine-inning rout. Redwoods' Tyson Bragg tried to spark the hosts with two RBI, but the Corsairs could not keep pace with Shasta's pressure offense and patient approach that produced 12 walks.
Game 2: Day, Kennedy slam the door
In Saturday's opener, Shasta again struck early and never trailed in a 10–4 victory, scoring in six different innings and collecting 12 hits. Wayne Tackett led the attack with three hits and two RBI, while Mager, Clayton Jeanneret, Caden Illingworth and Kasen Ludeman each chipped in an RBI as the Knights repeatedly cashed in baserunners.
On the mound, Lucas Day battled through five innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits, before relievers Brady Kennedy and Rylan Lommori combined for four shutout frames with seven strikeouts to secure the win. Redwoods matched Shasta with 10 hits but left key runners on and committed three errors that extended innings.
Game 3: Blackburn headlines staff gem
The nightcap turned into a pitchers' showcase for Shasta, as the Knights closed the sweep with a 6–1 win while holding Redwoods to just three hits. Starter Cole Blackburn scattered three hits over five innings without an earned run, and relievers Lyle McKinnon and Joseph Ruettgers did not allow a hit over the final four frames.
Offensively, Zahniser set the tone again with a double, a triple and two RBI from the leadoff spot, while Bowen, Tackett and Jeanneret each drove in runs to give the staff plenty of cushion. Shasta's speed game was on display as the Knights swiped multiple bases, pressuring Redwoods' defense into four errors.
Knights surge in GVC race
With the sweep, Shasta improves its conference mark to 6–1 and remains in second place in the Golden Valley Conference standings, keeping the pressure on the top spot. Over the three-game set, the Knights' rotation allowed just 10 runs in 27 innings, while the lineup averaged 13 runs per game—a combination that positions Shasta as a serious GVC title contender heading into the heart of league play
