SHASTA MEN SECOND AT GVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Meeder second overall, Leedy finishes fourth
REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's cross country team finished in second at the Golden Valley Conference championships at home on Saturday.
The Knights had two runners in the top four and three in the top eight, but didn't have the depth to catch the Butte College Roadrunners. Butte won with 33 points with a total time of 1:55:41, followed by Shasta with 40 points (1:56:47) and College of the Redwoods with 54 points.
Shasta sophomore Chris Meeder, who was the conference favorite all year, finished in second place. Meeder ran the 4-mile course in 22 minutes, 2 seconds for an average mile time of 5:30. Redwoods' Nicholas Brichta won in 21:18.
Knights' sophomore Donald Leedy wasn't far behind, finishing in fourth overall in 22:38. Shasta sophomore Samuel Grafe was eighth (23:21), freshman Benjamin Mueller was 13th (24:17), and freshman Andrew Fuentes was 15th (24:29).
Freshman Blaine Haris also competed for Shasta, finishing 25th in 28:25.
WOMEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY
The Shasta women was one competitor shy of fielding a full team for the GVC championships. Redwoods won the GVC title with 20 points, College of the Siskiyous was second with 49 points and Butte was third with 51 points.
Freshman Julie Bradley led the Knights in 10th place, running the 5K course in 25:03 for an 8:03 average mile. Shasta freshman Brianna Dubose was 16th (28:58), Carley Martin was 18th (32:13) and Hannah Josang was 19th in 1:01:24.
Up next is the NorCal championships at Toro Park hosted by Hartnell College in Salinas on Friday.
