Knight's Leedy Wins Invitational
Shasta College sophomore wins his first race of the season
REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's Donald Leedy won his first race of the season Friday at the Jim Middleton Invitational at Shasta College.
Leedy ran the 4.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 55 seconds to lead the 28-person field, averaging a 5:35 mile. He was followed by Christopher Meeder, his former high school teammate at West Valley High School in Cottonwood, who finished second in 23:04, a 5:37 average mile time.
Butte was the top team with 27 points while Shasta was second with 30 points. College of the Redwoods and College of the Siskiyous both had competitors but did not field a full team.
Shasta College finished with a total time of 2:00:11, less than a minute behind Butte (1:59:22).
The Knights' sophomore Samuel Grafe was sixth overall (23:53), freshman Benjamin Mueller was 10th (24:40) and freshman Andrew Fuentes was 15th (25:39).
Shasta College's women's team was third in the meet with 59 points behind winner Redwoods (20 points) and second-place Butte (42 points). Siskiyous did not have a full team.
Knights' freshman Julie Bradley led the team with an eighth-place finish. Bradley ran the 3-mile course in 24:38, with an average mile time of 8:12.
Shasta freshman Deonna Ferreira was 13th (27:52), freshman Hannah Josang was 14th (29:21), freshman Brianna Dubose was 15th (29:43) and Carley Martin was 18th (32:06).
